The Roswell Refuge
Our shelter for battered adults is open 24/7 and provides temporary shelter for those adults and their children who are victims of domestic violence. Advocates are always available to provide service to those in need of our assistance or those who simply need a friendly voice to talk with.
The Roswell Refuge Thrift Store is open Wednesday and Thursday from 12-5 and Friday and Saturday from 9-2. Donations are always accepted and all proceeds from these sales and directed back into operating costs for our Shelter.
The Roswell Refuge for Battered Adults invites the public to join in the Remember My Name event on Saturday, October 15, at Pioneer Plaza (directly across from the Court House) on Main St., from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. This free event includes talks by survivors, victims’ families and other community members. It will end with a candlelight vigil for the domestic violence victims of Chaves County.
Domestic Violence Offender’s Treatment and Intervention program. (DVOT/I). Our 52 session H.E.A.L.(Helping Explore Accountable Lifestyles) has been shown to stop the abuse and give offenders the necessary tools and skills to move forward and have healthy, non-abusive lives.
Temporary Protective Order help is available M-F at our Administration Office. Our court advocate will be happy to assist you in filling out your paperwork correctly and provide support during the hearing.
The Roswell Refuge is also home to the Chaves County SANE unit. SANE stands for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. This unit provides forensic exams, trauma care, protected evidence chain of custody and courtroom testimony. SANE also provides Advocacy for those who wish to have additional support during the exam and counseling referrals.
Our Juvenile Non-violence program is available to those teens who have issues of violence and abuse in their lives whether or not they are involved in the Juvenile Justice System. B.E.A.R (Becoming Empowered, Accountable and Responsible) is a 16 session program for ages 13-17 which offers skills and tools to help those young people take control of their behavior and their lives.
The Roswell Refuge for Battered Adults is hosting the one woman show of ‘The Saga of Diamond Bessie; A Tale of Love and Murder’ as portrayed by Ms. Susi Wolf on Thursday, 10/6, from 7:00pm – 9:00pm at the Roswell Museum and Art Center (100 W. 11th. St. in Roswell). This show is not suitable for young children so we ask for adults only. This is a free event and desserts will be served afterwards.
